Andrew, as the son of a post middle-aged dad I have seen the result of the "ginning up" of the white uninformed male first had. I wrote about the gun issue in my blog and have seen a video news clip in which my dad can be seen attending a Tea Baggers rally.

My Dad and his girlfriend only get their news from Rush, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck. They vilify the "left wing media". I am very concerned about what direction this has taken my father. His visits to my home have turned increasingly argumentative and my children are surprised at how angry their grandfather is. I think we all have a responsibility to be concerned and to appropriately confront this issue with our loved ones.

Right wing talk radio is dangerous for democracy. I am in favor of bringing back the "Fairness Doctine" if they cannont self regulate.

I agree that Right wing talk radio is like a cancer. I would be concerned about any efforts to silence them through legislation. I don't really know anything about the Fairness doctrine, but I would like to hear the argument for it.

The Fairness Doctrine required that all television and radio programs that use the public airwaves give equal time to opposing viewpoints. This excluded cable TV and satellite radio. Reagan did away with it.

The idea is that if one voice controls the public airwaves then we are subject to propaganda. He who controls the messenger controls the message.

There is plenty of money to be made from ginning up the masses. Unfortunately for profit TV and Radio does not have a moral conscious.
